Module Bidding

After a few bidding rounds I finally got my modules allocated. They are (more computer science stream orientated)

CS2301 - Business And Technical Communication
CS2105 - Introduction to Computer Networks
CS2103 - Software Engineering
MA1301 - Introductory Mathematics
FNA1002X - FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING

Nus module/timetable bidding system’s uses a credit system which I think SMU’s system is similar too. NTU’s is a fastest finger first type in my impressions.

The mistakes I learn from my 1st experience is insufficient planning and indecisiveness. Anyway here are some tips on planning.

First decide on the modules that you would want to take for the semester. It was difficult for me because I didn’t know what to stream to. I wasted time, credits and efforts bidding and dropping certain modules several times. Some advised me to take the common core modules so I have a backup path if I decide to jump line.

Listen for advice on which modules to take, some modules are easy to score, some interesting, some just to get accompany from friends. Take note of the modules workload, prerequisite and preclusions. Some would go to the extend of looking at the lecturer and the class population.

Use the NUS Timetable Builder. This would help to check if lectures/tutorials/labs etc time clashes, and give you the idea of time allocated for lessons.

Classical Music Entertainment

Beethoven and Schubert called themselves miserable of all men.

Reading biographies of classical music composers, they often seem poor, miserable, pitifully, rejected and suffered from illnesses- Bach blindness, Beethoven deafness, Schumann madness, Schubert Syphilis, Chopin tuberculosis… However, there’s always the bright side to music, and with laughter the best medicine.

Igudesman And Joo performs a musical comedy called “A Little Nightmare Music” (a title used by ” P.D.Q. Bach” for his altered Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik)

See A Little Nightmare Music Trailer here

You might want to watch more of their funny excerpts on their webpage or here for more laughs.

Also if you read my brother’s blog, you would have read about Anderson and Roe, 2 brilliant pianists who play tango-like chronographed four-hands piano music (perhaps inspired by Schubert).

For a start, the duo playing “BLUE DANUBE FANTASY” is both exciting and funny.

Something slightly different would be their version of “LIBERTANGO” (Piazzolla).. Catch more of their outtakes and videos over here and read more here.

Sit back, relax and enjoy.
Btw, I just got accepted to NUSSO (NUS Symphonic Orchestra).

About Me: Here lies the world’s sleepiest…

Decide to change the caption from the About section in the sidebar

Before

I floating here amist my dreams.
Whacha reading is my sleep talking.

Current

Here lies the world’s sleepiest animal, and NUS’s sleepiest creature.
In this blog, I write only as clearly as my dreams dreamy.

I’m not trying to be poetic but here’s the break down if it doesn’t sounds too sound. (Please excuse any accidentals puns)

Here lies- This sounds almost like an engraving on a tombstone “beneath lies” but no, its referring to the little photo.

world’s sleepiest animal- Thats the shy little animal in the photo, a koala, which sleeps up to 22 hours a day.

NUS’s sleepiest creature- That’s me. I’m in NUS now and I love to sleep. You might already guessed the reason for my nick Zz85.
1. Its a lazy nick (just 4 characters)
2. It means lots of “zZzZzzZZzZZz”s for sleeping.
Thats why I got http://zz85.is.dreaming.org to be linked here.

In the 2nd line, its just an excuse for my low quality of writing, nothing much more.

Since I mention about sleep again, this is a opportunity for you sleep-struck readers to find out a lesson about waking out when the clock alarms.

Undo Scrolling

Ever felt irritated when you need to search where you left off your work in a document or source code after scrolling.

Here’s the tip. Use the undo and redo functions if the arrow keys fail to bring you back quickly.

View the screencast I created with Wink.

Inspired by LifeHacker’s productivity screencasts.

Other ways I thought Undo and Redo could make “editing bookmarks” or “Document makers”.

Example 2: Comparison between two areas
Make some changes like inserting spaces to the sections you want to read. Toggling undo and redo would bring you back and forth. Be careful not to destory important changes and remember to discard your unwanted changes when you are done.

Example 3: Return to the area you were editing previously (while you are editing another section)
This requires some eye power. Hit undo, to the point where the area last edited is shown and remember the scrollbar position. Redo all the way and move the scrollbar to the noted position.

HTH (Hope This Helps)
