For all those still wondering where I’m posted to.
I will be at SOA for the next 12 weeks or 3 months. SOA is School of Ammunition for now and previously known as Ammo Base.
Since this 1st day is more of having an induction it wouldnt be good to conclude anything. However, it seems I’ve to be mentally prepared to go for many lectures and study, in order to to pass 20 tests for me to “graduate” and become an ammo tech or specialist.
The first`Mexicans’ of SAF, SAF formative years
Interesting read on how beginnings of SAF.
There were stories that Israeli commanders pee into the mess tins and made trainees drink, because maybe they thought that was the way to train by the experiences they went through as POWs. Well again, that is a story but more reliable stories was that last time the uniforms were starch until they could stand on the floor, and the boots kiwi-ed until you could the reflection of your teeth.
Things in NS now have changed and improved alot since the olden days I guess, and safety have a significant importance. I read in the TIME magazine that in S.Korea’s Ns, high rate of suicides. Someone threw a live grenade into a tent of sleeping soldiers. Another case, a commander gave an order to put their finger into a dirty toilet bowl and then into their mouth.
No matter what, I always think that whatever hash the conditions we are in now in much better than in a real war or disaster. I’ve been reading quite a lot of war books lately and some news (esp. this occasion of J.O. anniversary with many foreign P.O.Ws visiting Singapore). I would recommend anyone into art or aircrafts to find and look at the book, “Masterworks Collection Air Combat Paintings by Robert Taylor“. Each oil painting is very well painted, almost photo like, with magnificent scenes, and depicts a story and almost the real scenario the pilots were (according to their testimonies).

Just read this not long ago on CNA webbie.
“Two bloggers charged under Sedition Act for racist remarks”
SINGAPORE : For the first time in Singapore, two bloggers have been charged under the Sedition Act for making racist remarks.
They are 25-year-old Nicholas Lim Yew and 27-year-old Benjamin Koh Song Huat.
A subordinate court was told that both their blogs had content that cast aspersions on the Malay community.
This sparked off a heated discussion online.
Both men are out on bail of S$10,000 each.
The case will be heard again on September 21.
A person is deemed to have committed an offence under the Sedition Act if he does, or conspires with any person to do, any act which has a seditious tendency.
It is also an offence to utter any seditious words or to print, publish, sell, distribute, reproduce or import any seditious publication.
Among others, a seditious tendency is defined under the Act as one to raise discontent or disaffection among the citizens or residents and to promote feelings of ill-will and hostility between different races or classes of the population of Singapore.
First time offenders can be fined up to S$5,000 or jailed up to three years or both fined and jailed.
For subsequent offences, they can be jailed up to five years and have their seditious publications forfeited and destroyed. - CNA /ct
I’m glad I’m no racist.
