During the sermon from last Sunday, I feel bad that I could have said something like the following to some
“If you do not believe in Jesus Christ, you would go to hell.”
The statement is not false, however it is true for an option, not the cause.
Its is similar to a case if lets say a person is dying because of an illness, lets say cancer, and the person does not want to look for doctor. When the person dies, he dies of cancer and not because he seek not a doctor.
If someone is very sick and does not want to see a doctor, and you say “If you do not find a doctor, you will die”, this statement refers to the option he has but not the cause if he dies.
So illness is the cause of his death. Likewise, sin is cause of death and reason why we would go to hell.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23
Likewise the cure would be to find the doctor.
When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Mark 2:17
